Essential Packing List
Important Information & Guidelines
- Gorilla trekking permits are limited and must be booked well in advance (3-6 months recommended)
- Minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years
- Trekking difficulty varies - be prepared for 2-6 hours of hiking in steep, muddy terrain
- You must be in good health - anyone with cough, cold, or illness will not be allowed to trek
- Maintain 7-10 meters distance from gorillas at all times
- Flash photography is strictly prohibited
- No eating, drinking, or smoking during the gorilla viewing hour
- Only 8 permits per gorilla family per day are issued
- Trekking may be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions
- Rwanda is malaria-free in most highland areas including Volcanoes National Park
